Ankle Instability
Ankle instability occurs when the ligaments that support the ankle become weakened or damaged, often after repeated ankle sprains. This can lead to the ankle feeling unstable or "giving way" particularly on uneven ground or during physical activity. Over time, the condition can cause chronic pain, swelling, and difficulty with daily activities. Without proper treatment, ankle instability may worsen and increase the risk of further injury. Treatment typically includes physical therapy to strengthen the ligaments or, in more severe cases, surgery to repair or tighten the damaged structures.
