Insertional Achilles Tendinopathy Surgery

Surgery for insertional Achilles tendinopathy focuses on removing damaged tendon tissue, as well as addressing any bone spurs or calcifications that may have developed where the tendon attaches to the heel bone. The procedure involves careful debridement of the tendon at the heel bone, removing the spurs. In some cases reattaching of the tendon is required. In some cases, the surgeon may also perform a tendon transfer if a significant portion of the tendon is damaged. Recovery typically involves a period of immobilization followed by physical therapy to restore function, strength, and flexibility. Surgery is generally considered when conservative treatments fail to provide relief and the condition significantly impacts daily activities.
