Midportion Achilles Tendinopathy

Midportion Achilles tendinopathy refers to degeneration and inflammation in the middle portion of the Achilles tendon, typically about 2-6 cm above where the tendon attaches to the heel bone. This condition is commonly caused by overuse, particularly in athletes or individuals who engage in repetitive activities like running or jumping. The tendon becomes painful, swollen, and stiff, especially during or after physical activity. Symptoms often worsen in the morning or after periods of rest. Without proper management, midportion tendinopathy can lead to chronic pain and limit activity. Treatment usually begins with rest, physical therapy, and strengthening exercises, but more advanced cases may require surgical intervention.
